Ecology & Biogeography

The group comprises researchers with expertise in various biological fields, and it focuses on ecology, biogeography, and conservation biology. The aim is to address current and future conservation issues using cutting-edge ecological knowledge and tools. The approaches range from theoretical and predictive analyses to applied actions, addressing challenges arising from human activities and environmental and climate changes.

Major competencies include biodiversity modelling, monitoring, conservation planning and practice, ecosystem functioning understanding, and analysing human activity impacts, as well as exploring macroecological and biogeographical patterns and assessing past/future climate change effects.

Interdisciplinary approaches involving stakeholders and informing public policies are privileged, emphasising dialogue with all interested parties. It also aims to increase science visibility, involving a broad audience using citizen science initiatives and actions to promote scientific culture.
