L. Marum graduated in Biology from Aveiro University, acquired a M.Sc. in Plant Production (ISA-UTL), and later a Ph.D. in Biology (SFRH/BD/17906/2004/28UE) in 2009 from UNL. The Ph.D. work was performed at ITQB and Oviedo University, under the supervision of Prof. Margarida Oliveira and Dr. Célia Miguel. Following her Ph.D. thesis research, L.Marum was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship at IBET (SFRH/BPD/47679/2008) to further examine the functional genomics of cork oak. The post-doctoral research focused on the molecular biology and gene expression governing the suberin biosynthetic pathway, suberin being a major constituent of cork. Following her post-doctoral research at IBET, in 2013, L.Marum took a position as a member of the research team at KLON-Innovative Technologies from Cloning, S.A., at Biocant Park, Cantanhede, Portugal, a plant biotechnology company aimed at improving technologies and knowledge in the propagation, conservation and genetic characterization for the agro-forestry sector. At KLON, L.Marum gained research experience in a commercially applied research environment. This experience further developed her expertise in plant biotechnology, especially with regard to forest species and fruit trees. Recently, L.Marum became an independent researcher at Centro de Biotecnologia Agrícola e Agro-Alimentar do Alentejo (CEBAL), Beja, Portugal. L.Marum participates as integrated member of the Research Unit MED - The Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development, Portugal. At CEBAL, L.Marum manages the AgroGenomics Research Group (http://www.cebal.pt/index.php/investigacao/genomica-agronomica). The main research goals have been focused on plant breeding for the improvement of quality and productivity traits of crops such as cardoon and almond trees and forest species like cork oak and pine. Strategies of plant selection by molecular markers and clonal propagation of high-value individuals and Genetic studies of plant growth and development have been explored by the research team.
