About

I am currently pursuing a PhD in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of Évora. My research focuses on unraveling the signaling pathways involved in somatic embryogenesis, particularly the role of extracellular molecules in modulating efficiency. This project, titled “Unravelling somatic embryogenesis signalling pathways – the role of extracellular molecules as efficiency modulators,” explores an innovative approach to the propagation of recalcitrant Portuguese olive cultivars, which have shown challenges when propagated via traditional methods like semi-hardwood cuttings.

I graduated with a degree in Agronomy from the University of Évora (2013–2016), where I developed a strong foundation in plant science and technology. During my studies, I became increasingly interested in Plant Biotechnology while assisting Master’s students with their dissertation projects in the Laboratory of Plant Breeding and Biotechnology. After completing my undergraduate degree, I pursued a Master’s in Agronomic Engineering (2016–2018) at the same institution, focusing my thesis on somatic embryogenesis in olives. This work was part of the OLEAVALOR project, where I successfully established in vitro embryogenic cultures of the ‘Galega vulgar’ cultivar. During this period, I also gained valuable experience working on walnut micropropagation and micrografting techniques as part of the VALREGIA project. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work in a professional setting focused on the in vitro production of high-value plants, where I was responsible for developing new products and overseeing grafting activities in the nursery sector. This experience allowed me to apply my academic expertise in a business environment and gain insight into the commercial aspects of plant biotechnology.

In 2019, I was awarded a research grant within the FERTIPINEA project, which focused on stone pine nutrition under dry and irrigated conditions. I am currently focused on the practical aspects of my research, applying my skills in Plant Biotechnology to contribute to advancements in this field.
