About

Nuno Guiomar holds a M.Sc. in Geographic Information Systems and Science (New University of Lisbon) and an Engineering Degree in Biophysical Engineering (University of Évora). He has participated in 16 research or applied research projects (10 of which resulting from competitive calls for international funding) and is currently developing research in the CILIFO, EROFIRE, FUEL-SAT, FIREPOCTEP and MOVING projects. He is the author of more than 40 papers published in international peer-reviewed journals and his interests focus on establishing (spatially explicit) relationships between ecological disturbance regimes (e.g., rural fires, grazing) and landscape dynamics. He held technical roles at the Mission-Structure for the Restoration of 2003 Burnt Areas, and at the National Forestry Authority (Forest Fire Prevention Structure). He was invited by the Independent Technical Commission and the Independent Technical Observatory to assist in the spatial and temporal reconstruction of the 2017 mega-fires, and more recently of the 2018 large fire in Monchique. He is an external expert in the Technical Group of the Sub-Commission "Lessons Learned" set up within the Portuguese Agency for the Integrated Management of Rural Fires. He is one of the co-founders of the Portuguese Association for Soil-Bioengineering.
