Anabela D.F. Belo, assistant professor at university of Évora (UEvora), is an Agricultural Engineer since 1993 and a PhD in Biological Sciences since 2006, both degrees completed at the University of Évora (Portugal).

Her teaching activities are in the areas of Botany and Plant Diversity and Conservation, namely in seed conservation, being the responsible for the establishment and management of a wild species seed bank, the Germplasm Seed Bank of Évora University.  She participates in all teaching degrees (bachelor’s in Biology and Agronomy, MSc in Conservation Biology, and Doctoral Programme in Biology).

Her R & D activities are focused on the conservation and valuation of native flora. She´s specialized in vegetation management and conservation, and works in both natural and semi-natural systems, such as olive groves or montado, and on the effect that vegetation management can have on the conservation of soil, water, and biodiversity, particularly in agro ecosystems. She is also an expert on seed ex-situ conservancy and soil seedbanks.

She participated in several LIFE projects aimed at the recovery of habitats, like LIFE-Charcos (restoration and protection of Mediterranean Temporary Ponds, a priority habitat 3170*), LIFE-LINES (aimed at improving conservation status and native flora diversity along grey infrastructure), LIFE Scrubsnet (aimed at revitalizing semi-arid extensive farming habitats through the sustainable management of their associated scrubs areas) and Zimbral for LIFE (aimed at the conservation of the Natura 2000 habitat 2250* Coastal dunes with Juniperus spp.); she also participated in a great number of scientific projects aimed at the conservation of natural resources with agricultural value (e.g., Cynara cardunculus) or of the vegetation as a whole (e.g. olive grove mulching with native vegetation).

She is a member of the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) and of the International Network for Seed-based Restoration (INSR) since 2019; Polli.NET (Collaborative Network for the Assessment, Conservation and Enhancement of Pollinators and Pollination); EWRS Working Group Weed Vegetation and Biodiversity.
