Sandra Gonçalves graduated in Agronomic Engineering from the University of Algarve in 2002 and completed the PhD in Biology (Biotechnology), in 2007, in the same institution. She has more than 15 years of postdoctoral experience in Plant Biotechnology. Presently (from 2022) she is an assistant professor at Faculty of Sciences and Technology (UAlg). Key research topics focused on the exploitation of plant biodiversity as a source of bioactive molecules with industrial interest and on the application of biotechnological techniques for plant biomass production and manipulation. She published more than 70 scientific papers, 15 book chapters by invitation and many other publications. In the last years she has been involved in teaching activities, mainly in biotechnology area, in advanced training (BSc/MSc/PhD) and in outreach activities.
