Research conducted in the laboratory

  • Study of the decline disease in Quercus suber (cork oak) and Quercus rotundifolia (holm oak) aiming at the genetic/biological control of the disease. Studies on the molecular interactions between Phytophthora cinnamomi and Quercus suber in relation to the infection process;
  • Genomic and chemical study, as well as its application as biological control, of the plant Phlomis purpurea (Lamiaceae).
  • Study of candidate genes for molecular markers in small ruminants of national native breeds;
  • Genetic and morphological characterization of national native cattle breeds, particularly the identification and genetic and morphological characterization of an extinct Algarvia cattle population, currently being reconstructed based on these studies;
  • Effects of citrus pruning on fruit productivity and quality;
  • Effects of controlled deficit irrigation on citrus, avocado, carob and dragon fruit plants;
  • Characterization of dragon fruit cultivars;
  • Interaction between Trioza erytreae, vector of huanglongbing, and its hosts;
  • Technology and innovation for local carbon sequestration, through nature-based solutions
  • The research work associated with this laboratory is partially carried out in the field, on farmers' plots and in green spaces, as well as in the Horto of UAlg.
