The Solange Oliveira Prize is an initiative set up by the MED – Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development, which aims to honour doctoral theses that showcase excellent research on Agriculture, Environment and Development issues, within the framework of the MED’s strategy and Thematic Lines. The name of this award comes as a way of honouring Solange Oliveira (1966-2017+) who was a Professor at the University of Évora and a MED researcher, having stood out for her dedication and commitment to qualifying young researchers.

For whom it is intended:

This Prize will be awarded annually to the author of a Doctoral Thesis defended within the scope of the Doctoral Courses associated with the MED, in the last two years prior to the closing date for receipt of applications.

Assessment criteria:

The Solange Oliveira Prize will be awarded on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Scientific quality of the research carried out (including the quality of the methodology) – 40%;
  • Innovative nature – 20%;
  • Relevance of the results to the advancement of knowledge in the MED Thematic Lines – 40%.

Deadline for submitting applications:

Applications must be submitted by the author(s) of the Thesis and sent to udit_med@uevora.pt by 17:00 on 16 September 2024.

Description of the Prize:

The Prize consists of the MED funding the participation (travel, registration, accommodation) of the winning candidate in an international conference, of their choice and of relevance to the MED, up to a maximum value of €1,500 to present the results of the winning work.

A plaque and a certificate will be presented at the award ceremony, which is expected to be at the Meeting of Doctoral Students in Environment and Agriculture.
