FoSaMed project offers free online course on food health, safety and sustainability in the Mediterranean

The FoSaMed project (Erasmus+) recently presented an innovative new educational tool: the MOOC ‘Healthy, Safe and Sustainable Food in the Mediterranean’. This initiative represents an important milestone in ensuring inclusive, quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The intensive, open-to-all course (MOOC=Massive Open Online Course) is available free of charge on the UNIMED – Mediterranean Universities Union e-learning platform. It is aimed not only at students, but also at a wider public, acting as an effective tool for scientific communication.

What is a MOOC?

MOOCs are free online courses designed for large audiences and accessible anywhere in the world. They include materials such as recorded lectures, readings, online quizzes and interactive modules and are widely recognised as an innovative form of formal, informal and lifelong learning.

About this MOOC

The course covers essential topics on healthy, safe and sustainable food in the context of the Mediterranean. Highly interdisciplinary, this MOOC is divided into 3 modules: 1) Mediterranean Diet and Sustainable Food Systems; 2) Food and Health; 3) Food safety and risk assessment.

How to access the course

Go to this page and click on ‘continue’ at the bottom of the page and create a new profile if you don’t already have an account. After logging in to the UNIMED e-learning platform, select the ‘Healthy, Safe and Sustainable Food in the Mediterranean’ course and start learning!

About the FoSaMed project

FoSaMed is an Erasmus+ capacity building project funded by the European Commission. Its main objective is to implement a new joint master’s programme in food safety in Morocco. It is coordinated by Marta Laranjo, MED researcher and professor at the University of Évora. Find out more in this video.
