ATB and MED promoted a workshop in Évora to discuss emerging technologies to accelerate agroecology
On 14 January, MED hosted researchers from the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) at the Mitra campus of the University of Évora to hold a workshop as part of the Horizon Europe project D4AgEco – Digitalisation for agroecology.
The event focused on the role of digital technologies in the agroecological transition and featured presentations by Andreas Meyer, coordinator of the D4AgEco project, MED researchers at the University of Évora: José Rafael Marques da Silva, Gottlieb Basch, Elvira Sales-Baptista, Teresa Batista, Vasco Fitas da Cruz and Rui Lourenço, and António Reis Pereira, from UNAC – Union of the Mediterranean Forest, addressing practical examples of technologies applied to areas such as precision agriculture, conservation agriculture, biodiversity monitoring, the circular economy and digital solutions for forestry and agro-sylvo-pastoral systems.
In the second part of the event, the dynamic ‘World Café’ promoted debate among the participants, allowing them to identify research gaps and priorities for the development of technologies that encourage more sustainable and resilient agricultural practices.
The workshop stressed the importance of international collaboration in creating innovative solutions for agriculture that responds to today’s environmental and social challenges.
